Derek Albeck-

After receiving his BA from California State University Northridge in printmaking and painting in 2005 Derek Albeck is now working as a full time artist in Los Angeles. With a critical outlook on a society consumed by various routines that abide to innate constructs found within our culture my paintings and sculptures focus on the individual and the effect these constructs have on our lives and the way we perceive ourselves. As an extension to the idea of our lives being constructed by outside sources I am also interested in the ways in which the individual act out upon their inward frustration once they come to realize the absurdity of life itself. Creating my own world of individuals I call Glum’s, these characters represent the downfall of the notion that the life we live is the life we create for ourselves.
